Oh yeah? Said who?

Running a web development business will automatically mean you have your own website, right? This week I met a man who proved me wrong. Mr X had a website when he didn’t have clients yet. The business picked up and, being just a little swamped and living under the ever true banner that the client comes first, never maintained it properly and ended up stopping the website all together just to focus on his Facebook and Twitter followers.

Mr X explained to me that the only service he really needed was to be able to talk to his peeps. This was aptly provided by the social networks he used and that FREE OF CHARGE.

This lead me to create a new package in Josh Multimedia’s portfolio:

"Why do I need a website again?"

Might sound like a question you won’t hear too often, but this is something I hear regularly. So let’s try to sum it up in a few points:
  1. A store front or office has a fixed location or fixed locations. Websites are global.
  2. Working hours are limited. Websites are available 24/7/365 or 366, depends on the year.
  3. Having a 24hour opportunity to catch a lead improves your chances at viable business by two thirds (locally) or more (globally).
Along with this question I also get another response: “I have too much business already. It would be silly to branch out now.” The prospect of change sometimes seems daunting. Things are running smoothly, you have adapted to your hectic office hours and shaking it up was not your idea. Do you know of CEOs or COOs that work 8 hours a day? Do you want to stay a small business owner or stretch it for a couple of years and become just that little bit more comfortable?

Having a website that grows with you, your current and future employees and your business is that ‘one essential black number in your closet’, a non-negotiable if you like. You might think that having a budget website is not what you want either, but with Josh Multimedia budget can only be applied to your invoice, not your result. Business-as-usual?

Josh Multimedia was a brain child. Aren't all businesses? It starts as a vision, becomes a pregnancy and brings a child into life that needs much work and nurturing, yet as the parent you do not find it hard to scrape together strength to do what is needed to keep it alive.

Your business is important to you. It is possible that employing your first employee was scary and you had ideals of wanting him or her to share your vision and mission. You wanted someone who would wholly contribute to what would become your enterprise. I know that feeling. You deserve the recognition you work so hard for.

Business-as-usual to the business owner is far from the 9 to 5. It's getting up at one and three and six in the morning to feed, rock and put to bed the dreams, plans and stresses of your own brain child.

The new scene: Generation-Y

You thought marketing was cut and dry. You thought you knew exactly how to get to the buyers. Suddenly it seems like your income is dwindling and it is getting harder and harder to get the young bunch to invest in what you have to offer.

Is it the economy? Or does it have to do with the way we try to communicate to the new generation?

It has become very obvious that going the social-marketing route is the smart thing to do. Blogging (like we are doing now), establishing a fan base on Twitter and Facebook and getting a web presence are must-do's on any respectable marketing plan.

Yahoo News posted this article on the 20th of August: "Sears posts surprise loss". It is a great article to prove the point that the new generation needs a new way of getting to know you and what you have to offer. When is the last time you researched your target market? Are you in line with what Generation-Y would ask of you?

Josh Multimedia would like to take the pulse of your business. Whether you're starting up or have been going steady for a while now, we would like to make your vision and mission our aim.

Visit us today at www.joshmultimedia.co.za to get the ball rolling. We are here to serve.
